Finding a new path

Hello again....Since having my little boy, I have been struggling to find the time and energy to stitch in the way that I used to. In the past I had my own workroom with all of my many materials to hand with space to lay them out, this is now his lovely nursery. I also used to take my time to stitch, my work is slow and very considered, I take a long time over the placement of different elements and by it's nature hand stitching and tiny details are time consuming.  I have lots of plans for larger pieces of work, some of which I have started but for now these feel overwhelming.  For me, not stitching is not an option, it's like breathing to me, more like taking a breath from the whirlwind of parenting a small child. It is what connects me to myself and also to others. What I've realised is that I need to find a new way to work for now which fits into my life as it is. When I wrote a post how hard I was finding this on instagram recently, I had lots of encouragement with people urging me to to do 'just a few stitches' in the little time that I had. Well I took that advice to heart and with just the little scraps I had to hand in my workbox, I stitched this little piece, not worrying too much about it but just enjoying passing the needle and thread through fabric and making something that meant something to me....

  6. You are an inspiration...to take a bit of cloth and needle and thread and create this lovely work is admirable. Now I will never to be able to toss my scraps of drop cloth again...I will take them to the lake and take a few stitches every once in a while and relax.

  9. Beautiful, as always.
Maybe you could use all the smaller pieces you are and will be making over the next few months to make eventually a larger one that shows your stitching journey through motherhood.... All the best with everything. Christelle xx

  10. Hello Christine, it took a long time to produce your baby boy. You have come a long way. It is overwhelming when you want to do everything. Enjoy your son's each and every day, set yourself small tasks, small projects. Soon he will be at school in the blink of an eye. These small makes are as beautiful as your larger pieces. Go on your walks in nature to inspire you, breathe the fresh air and enjoy what you have achieved and what you plan for the future. Don't be hard on yourself. Mrs Superstitcher.........much love Lorraine xxxx

  11. Babies grow too fast. I am a grandmother now, so where did those years go? Enjoy your baby, he will grow and be at school and you will also wonder where the years went......... Go on walks and take a camera take photos for future use, collect fallen leaves etc and look around you to remember. I love caj13green idea, make smaller pieces and eventually join them together to make a larger pieces of work. Your work is gorgeous.

  18. This is so beautiful, yes, "just a few stitches"! Being a mother brings about many changes to one's schedule. It won't always be this hectic so just squeeze in what time you can, and when you simply can't don't fret. Remember that this season of your life is fleeting and being a mother is the greatest blessing.

  23. As with every new adventure we embark upon (motherhood at the top of your list right now) there must always be time to be creative or to express oneself.
Your stitching is changing... a reflection of your life.
It is lovely, more freehand almost spiritual in nature.
I hope you enjoy doing it as much as we do seeing it...
