this and that

Hello, just thought I'd show you a few things, a handmade card from an old bookcover and little gift to go with it and some details of the stitching on another gift...
I'm making more dolls at the moment and I'm in the middle of another stitched piece, so I'll have more to show you soon....

paper and stitch

These are just a few of the treasures I'll be bringing along to the Paper Tales workshop to be used to create pieces like the ones above - and yes I will be bringing my trusty typewriter, found in a charity shop and carried home on the train. I didn't even know if it worked, I just fell in love with the colour! There are still some places available so send me a message if you would like to come and play with paper and stitch!

Come to a Gentlework workshop

'Paper Tales'

Telling stories in paper and stitch with guest tutor Christine Kelly of Gentlework.

at
32 High Street, Bishops Castle, Shropshire
on
Tuesday 30th July 2013

Learn to make a collage using paper ephemera, embellished with hand stitching and vintage haberdashery.  Watch the story unfold as you add words to your piece. These paper tales will then be made into greetings cards or your own piece of unique artwork. All materials will be provided but you may like to bring some personal mementos to include in your work.

The workshop runs from 10.30am – 3.30pm at a cost of £42 which includes all materials and a light lunch. Advance booking is essential. Please email me at gentlework@hotmail.co.uk  or contact theGALLERY on 01588 630555 to book.

all wrapped up

Now completed, the piece I started at the Primmy and Jessie Chorley workshop at Cowslip in Cornwall.  I've used a puttee for the backing, which I've quilted with a simple running stitch and then appliqued on linen leaves and grubby linen buttons.  I have a few of these and I like the dark green wool - I plan to use them for some other embroidered pieces....watch this space.
Thanks again to everyone who leaves a comment here - (or who just comes to look) - I really appreciate all your comments and love to hear from you - you can always pop to facebook too and say hello to me there.

a bird and his nest

As promised, the bird to go with the nest.........I've nearly completed the piece now - I just have to put the backing on and decide on how the roll will fasten up and then I'll be able to show you the whole thing.

Some bits of news - I will have a stall at the Cotswold Vintage Fair on Saturday 24th August and also at the Selvedge Winter Fair on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th November - I'm very excited about this!
If any of you can make it to either of these, I'd love to see you so come by and say hello!

more stitching

Here's a few glimpses of my progress on the piece I started at the workshop in Cornwall. It's a long thin piece that will roll up and close when completed. The fabric I've used for the backing is a lovely silk from a vintage kimono which was very badly moth eaten when I bought it, so I didn't feel bad about cutting it up. I love using fabric from old clothing in my work. Of course, as I'm sure you've guessed, there will be a bird to go with that nest, birds seem to find their way in to most of my work!

Thank you for all the comments I receive here - its lovely to read them and I appreciate them all x
